Ostrava Town Hall Ostrava, Czechia 2025–2025

Extension to a neo-classical town hall providing a new main entrance and reception with council offices on the upper levels

Ostrava’s existing town hall sits elevated on a pedestal, accessed via a ceremonial staircase – asserting authority from the hilltop, echoing the temples of antiquity.

The proposed extension bridges the grandeur and décor of the existing town hall’s neo-classical façade, and the dense woodland to the north. A formal frontage to the south, aligned to the site boundary but misaligned to the existing building, sets up a dialogue with the historic façade creating a new entrance at the junction between the two. Meanwhile, a lyrical concave façade to the east ascends the hill and dissolves into the forest.
