Thames Christian School & Battersea Chapel is Highly Commended at the 2025 Civic Trust Awards
April 2025
Thames Christian School & Battersea Chapel has received National Civic Trust Highly Commended recognition at the 2025 Awards.
The judges said: “This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can respond to environmental and spatial constraints to successfully create a dual-use development in an urban context.”
They added: "...the scheme skilfully addresses spatial, functional, and environmental challenges to deliver a well-considered and community-centric design. Architectural ingenuity has created a harmonious blend of two distinct uses on a constrained urban site, maximising limited space while retaining a sense of openness and natural light. The decision to structure the school around two U-shaped courtyards with external access decks is innovative and practical."
The judges concluded: "Together, these institutions form a strong civic presence, blending harmoniously with their urban surroundings and retaining a sense of permanence through the preserved trees."
The Awards reward projects that demonstrate excellence in architecture or design, whilst being sustainable, accessible and providing a positive civic contribution.
The Civic Trust Awards is the longest standing architectural and built environment awards scheme in Europe. They were established in 1959 to recognise outstanding architecture, planning, and design in the built environment.
