'Life Beyond the Facade', RIBA Journal, review by Simon Henley
March 2024
'Life beyond the facade', a review by Simon Henley of Costa's Barbers designed by Brisco Loran Architects has been published in the March edition of The RIBA Journal.
The retail-to-residential conversion on Battersea High Street by Brisco Loran and Duncan Blackmore for Arrant Industries provides a home and office for the practice.
Despite its humble scale, the project invites "ideas about the city, about conventions of use, public and private, social and domestic space, and about forms of practice and its impact on the environment."
The article concludes: "Just imagine a high street full of this type of building, and a city full of this kind of high street, and the vitality, fluidity and ambiguity that could bring to our public and private lives."
