Dialogues 30 – Drawing Matter
April 2026
Henley Halebrown is hosting Dialogues with Drawing Matter on 15th April 2026 in their London studio.
The London team of Drawing Matter – Niall, Jesper, Rosie, Matt, and Martha – will each discuss some of their favourite drawings from the collection; the drawings themselves will be on the tables in front of us, for everyone to see.
What can the drawing tell us that the building cannot?
At Drawing Matter, we often remind visiting students and practitioners that architects do not make buildings, they make drawings. Drawings are approached as active prompts for discussion rather than mere artefacts documenting a history of the built environment. We are interested in unbuilt projects, unknown architects, unfinished or aborted ideas, and traces of process. We try to consider drawings first and foremost based on their content and representational techniques – context then follows.
As a charity, Drawing Matter explores the role of drawing in architectural thought and practice, through workshops for students and practitioners, public events, exhibitions, and publications, both physical and digital. Central to our activities is the Drawing Matter Collection of many thousands of architectural and design drawings from across the world, dating from the Renaissance to the present day.
